wrestling News and Rumors
According to Wrestling News and Rumors, Vince McMahon the Chairman of WWE(World Wrestling Entertainment) turns 64 today. He was born August 24th 1945
McMahon currently is pitching to start a new network of his own called the WWE Network. McMahon made the following comments: “It won’t be a threat, it’ll be an integration, it’s good for `RAW’ to be on USA.” He also mentioned it would be a tool in negotiations, “Having your own network allows you a lot of leverage.”
There are no plans at the moment to remove RAW from the USA Network. McMahon has been having trouble lately with his companies in trying to produce new and upcoming stars.
In a recent interview with Company Town, Vince McMahon said he wants to launch the network within the next 2 years and that he will pitch it as a network for the basic tier, which is the hardest one to get on.
Trying to launch a new cable network is just one of the latest ideas Vince McMahon has tried in an effort to remake the WWE. For years now, the WWE programming was a tough sell to advertisers and families because of its raunchy nature and sexual innuendo.
It may not seem like the best time to try and start a new network, Vince McMahon has a pretty strong track record that cable and satellite operators will find very hard to ignore. WWE has a huge. “Raw,” for example, averages 5.5 million viewers and all of the WWE’s shows on broadcast and cable combined average 16 million viewers per week. WWE is also starting bringing in bigger advertisers such as, AT&T, Pepisco and Procter & Gamble.
Vince McMahon is also a force on pay-per-view. WWE does roughly 14 pay-per-view events a year that attract anywhere from 500,000 to 1.4 million viewers.
